World Library Expert from India Attends UNDIP Student Class

Semarang, 30 April 2026 — The Study Program of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), held a special session of the UNDIP Global Classroom program as part of the university’s academic internationalisation initiative. On Thursday, 30 April 2026, students enrolled in the Kepustakawanan Indonesia (Indonesian Librarianship) course had the rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the world’s foremost authorities in library and information science.

The guest lecturer for the occasion was Prof. M.P. Satija, UGC Emeritus Fellow and Honorary Professor at the Department of Library and Information Science, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India. Professor Satija is internationally recognised as one of the leading scholars on the thought of S.R. Ranganathan and the theory of knowledge organisation.

In two sessions of 50 minutes each, Professor Satija delivered lectures under the title “Ranganathan’s Five Laws of Library Science: From Print Era to Digital Age”. The first session explored the historical background and philosophical foundations of Ranganathan’s Five Laws in the context of the print era, while the second session examined the continued validity and relevance of these laws in today’s digital library environment.

The event is part of the UNDIP Global Classroom, an international academic initiative that integrates distinguished foreign lecturers into selected courses, providing students with global perspectives and the opportunity to engage directly with world-class scholars through interactive Q&A sessions.

“This was a truly rare opportunity for our students,” said Fuad Wahyu Prabowo, S.IP., M.A., the session moderator. “Learning directly from a UGC Emeritus Fellow who has dedicated his academic life to the study of Ranganathan is an experience that no textbook can replicate.”

The UNDIP Global Classroom program is organised by the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro, as part of the university’s commitment to becoming a World Class University and expanding its international academic network.
