The Sriekandi Patra Workshop is an inclusive batik workshop and an empowerment community for people with disabilities supported by PT Pertamina TBBM Boyolali. It is located in Tawangsari Village, Teras District, Boyolali Regency, Central Java. Since its establishment in April 2018, the workshop has provided opportunities for people with disabilities to develop batik-making skills while fostering their independence and self-confidence.
During batik workshops, participants receive direct explanations from the artisans about each stage of the batik-making process. However, this information is primarily delivered orally and has not yet been systematically documented in a format that participants can access and revisit after the workshop. This condition highlights the need for an information resource that documents the batik-making process in a more systematic, accessible, and user-friendly manner for workshop participants and the wider community.
To address this need, Allya Sabilla Al Fawziyah, a Library and Information Science student at Diponegoro University and a member of the KKN-T IDBU 12 team, carried out an individual community service project to develop a QR code-based e-guidebook on the batik-making process using the Information Repackaging method at the Sriekandi Patra Workshop. The project aims to repackage information about the batik-making process into a more systematic, accessible, and user-friendly format. To complement the e-guidebook, educational posters and an audiobook were also developed and integrated through QR codes.
The development of the e-guidebook began with observations of the batik-making process, documentation of each stage, and interviews with artisans at the Sriekandi Patra Workshop. The information collected was then selected, organised, and repackaged using the Information Repackaging method to produce a digital guidebook that presents each stage of the Sriekandi Patra batik-making process in sequence, from motif design and pattern transfer onto fabric to the canting process, production by partner artisans, and finally the finished batik ready for sale. The e-guidebook is also enriched with photographs and concise explanations for each stage, making the information easier for readers to understand.
To facilitate access to information, the e-guidebook is integrated with a QR code displayed on educational posters in the Sriekandi Patra Workshop Reading Corner. The posters provide a brief overview of the batik-making process while directing visitors to access the e-guidebook digitally. To further enhance accessibility, an audiobook is also available, presenting the content of the e-guidebook in audio format. This allows users to choose the format that best suits their needs and preferences.
As a result of this project, the e-guidebook on the batik-making process has been successfully developed and made available in the Reading Corner of the Sriekandi Patra Workshop. Educational posters and an audiobook have also been integrated through QR codes, allowing users to access these resources easily using their smartphones. The availability of these three media makes it easier for workshop participants, visitors, and the wider community to learn about the batik-making process independently. In addition to serving as educational resources, they also document the local knowledge of the batik-making process possessed by artisans with disabilities, helping to ensure that this knowledge can be learned, shared, and preserved over time.
It is hoped that the e-guidebook and its supporting media will continue to be used as educational, documentation, and promotional resources for the Sriekandi Patra Workshop. Through the use of information technology, these media are also expected to contribute to the preservation of local knowledge about the batik-making process for future generations.
